Intern Battery and Hybrid Valuation (f/m/d)
Workload: 100% | Place: Baden | Start date: flexibel, limited to 6 months
In this Internship you will work alongside experienced quantitative analysts in the day-to-day valuation business. After learning our processes and tools, you will rapidly support the team in producing valuations for battery and hybrid assets. You will also help improve and streamline the valuation workflow by contributing code, tests, and documentation to our Python-based valuation toolchain.
Tasks and responsibilities:
Support daily valuations of battery and hybrid assets using Axpo’s in-house optimization tools.
Visualize valuation results, prepare materials, and present outcomes to stakeholders.
Improve the valuation process by automating valuation reports for different asset combinations (e.g., BESS + wind/PV).
Generate market insights and summarize key findings for business developers.
What you bring & who you are:
Currently pursuing or recently completed degree in a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science, energy science, quantitative finance).
Strong Python skills with a focus on data analytics; experience with code structuring and testing is a plus.
Familiarity with optimization, time-series analysis, mixed-integer linear programming (MILP), stochastic modelling, or numerical methods.
Solid understanding of/or strong motivation to learn about European power markets and storage assets.
Experience with git or similar version control; basic software engineering practices.
Nice to have: Experience with market data handling and APIs; basic SQL knowledge.
Nice to have: Exposure to valuation of optionality and battery optimization and backtesting.
Analytical, self-driven, and curious mindset with attention to detail and strong communication skills.
Fluency in English; German is a plus.
About the team:
Axpo’s Batteries & Hybrids division develops standalone and co-located (hybrid) battery energy storage systems (BESS) across Europe and optimises battery assets in collaboration with other Axpo teams. The Optimisation team provides market scheduling algorithms for business case valuations and batteries in operation.
