Managing Director

Axpo Japan seeks an experienced energy professional and entrepreneurial leader with a hands-on approach and a passion for shaping the future. We are on the lookout for a dynamic and driven Managing Director to steer our company from its start-up phase to becoming the leading Energy Risk Management firm in Japan. This pivotal role involves building and expanding Axpo Japan with an agile, client-centric approach, offering tailor-made solutions that deliver unparalleled value to our Japanese customers. The Managing Director will also represent Axpo Japan to Japanese Authorities and ensure all activities comply with local legislation.

What you will do:

Commercial Offer Definition: Engage with customers to tailor our commercial offerings based on market needs and characteristics, utilizing Axpo's extensive expertise. A primary short-term goal is to identify client needs and secure Axpo’s initial commercial transactions.

Customer Engagement: Originate business opportunities by developing robust client relationships, crafting customized solutions, and thinking creatively under tight timelines.

Strategic Development: Establish Axpo as the primary reference in Japan for Energy Risk Management.

Leadership: With support from experienced Origination colleagues globally, form and head a local origination team. Manage personnel performance and development while fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Operational Excellence: Acquire and maintain necessary market licenses, manage company operations for efficiency, and ensure compliance with Japanese legal/regulatory standards and Axpo Group policies.

Financial Management: Manage financial obligations to support market activities and oversee all financial operations in alignment with Japanese laws and Axpo policies.

Team Management: Handle all aspects of local staff management, including recruitment and compliance with HR policies and local labor laws. Promote a strong team culture that aligns with Axpo’s values.

What you bring & who you are:

Education: Master’s degree in Economics or Engineering; MBA preferred.

Leadership Competencies: Exceptional strategic and creative thinking, superior negotiation and communication skills, adept at building/maintaining key relationships, and motivating highly skilled teams.

Professional Competencies: Minimum 10 years in origination or related commercial roles, including at least 5 years in senior management. Expert knowledge of the local energy market and regulations.

Personal Competencies: Entrepreneurial mindset, client-centric approach, high motivation, strong commercial acumen, and effective strategy implementation.

Languages: Proficiency in English and Japanese, both written and spoken.
