Senior Originator (m/f/d)

Are you a dealmaker at heart with a deep understanding of energy markets? Join Axpo as a Senior Originator and play a pivotal role in building our presence in Japan from the ground up.

In this high-impact role, you will be at the forefront of expanding Axpo’s client portfolio by embracing a client-centric approach - listening to the market, understanding customer needs, and crafting tailored risk management and commercial structures. Your primary mission: originate and close strategic deals.

Initially focused on developing new client relationships across Japan, you’ll lay the foundation for a robust portfolio. Over time, you'll become a key member of the team managing Axpo Japan’s origination activities.


What you will do:

  • Build, develop, and manage a portfolio of Clients (Industrial, Retailers, Producers, Wholesale Counterparties), representing Axpo in the market.

  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with various Counterparties such as government bodies, regulators, and financial institutions.

  • Structure new non-standard transactions ensuring alignment with the company’s risk appetite and support capabilities.

  • Collaborate closely with legal, credit, and VAT departments to secure necessary approvals and licenses.

  • Provide support to Middle and Back Office teams to ensure smooth deal and product onboarding.

  • Exchange best practices with other originators in different regions.

  • Engage in portfolio management activities to hedge exposure, mitigate risks, and optimize the value of the electricity and natural gas portfolios.

  • Follow business processes and adhere to Axpo’s value set.


    • What you bring & who you are:

  • 8–10 years of experience in origination or related commercial energy market roles.

  • In-depth knowledge of the Japanese and global energy markets, including local regulations.

  • Proven ability to engage clients and explain complex, structured products clearly.

  • Strong analytical, sales, negotiation, and presentation skills.

  • Hold a Master’s degree in Economics, Engineering, or Law; an MBA is considered a plus.

  • Fluent in English and proficient in Japanese, both spoken and written; knowledge of other Asian languages is advantageous.
