As a Senior Cloud Database Engineer at Axpo, you will be at the forefront of designing and implementing innovative database solutions in cloud-native and hybrid environments. Your role is vital for aligning database strategies with business objectives and ensuring the efficient operation of our database infrastructure.
What you will do
- Design and continuously develop the database architecture to meet the company's requirements.
- Collaborate with application managers, architects, and systems engineers to integrate and advance database systems.
- Take a technical lead role and develop the database team to enhance effectiveness and technological competence.
- Develop and implement highly available and scalable database solutions in collaboration with other IT teams.
- Advise company management and other departments on all aspects of database technology.
- Monitor database performance, conduct optimizations, and ensure high availability of database services.
- Support the database team, including training and developing team members.
- Create and monitor security policies for database operations.
- Manage disaster recovery and ensure data integrity.
- Maintain up-to-date operational documentation such as manuals, administration, and installation guides.
- Participate in the 24/7 on-call service.
What you bring & who you are
- Degree in Computer Science or a comparable qualification with further education in cloud technologies.
- At least 5 years of experience in managing and maintaining complex cloud and hybrid database systems.
- Proven experience in leading database projects in cloud and hybrid environments.
- Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with various stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of developing and scaling database-driven solutions.
- Commitment to maintaining high documentation and operational standards.
- In-depth knowledge of MS SQL Server and Oracle high availability solutions, Oracle Linux, shell programming, cloud (Azure, AWS, etc.), infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible, etc.).
- Experience with cloud database technologies such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or Google Cloud SQL.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven in-depth experience in administration, development, and operation of databases.
- Experience in the design and implementation of database solutions in the cloud.
- Practical experience in transitioning from legacy to cloud-native and hybrid database environments.
- Open to new creative ideas and committed to keeping up with the constantly changing cloud and database market.
- Fluent in English, written and spoken; German language skills would be an advantage.
